Ergometrine and Ergometrinine

October 27, 2017

The primary ergot alkaloids ergometrine and ergometrinine are highly toxic mycotoxins, which naturally occur in various types of grains (i.e., rye, wheat, rice), as well as in cereals and other cereal products. For this reason, alkaloids have gained increasing importance for food safety over the last years.

The application of HPLC-MS/MS for the analysis of ergot alkaloids in food presupposes the availability of isotopically labelled internal standards. In cooperation with the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), ASCA GmbH has produced ergometrine and ergometrinine as internal native and isotope-labelled standard. The synthesis was published in NPC Natural Product Communications 2017 Vol. 12, No.3, 373-376.
